1991 & Subsonic Reimagine 'Castles In The Sky' With DnB Energy

Castles In The Sky

Few tracks have stood the test of time quite like "Castles In The Sky." Originally released in 1999 by Ian van Dahl, the iconic trance anthem has now been given a high-energy drum and bass transformation by two of the genre's brightest talents: 1991 and Subsonic. After more than a year of demand from fans and countless festival plays, the duo has officially dropped their long-awaited rework today via Armada Music.

A fusion of past and present, this release pairs Marsha's (Martine Theeuwen) soaring vocals with a dreamlike reinterpretation of the original melody—layered over the signature DnB elements that have made both producers stand out in the genre. The track is primed to dominate club and festival sets in 2024 and beyond, having already earned support from heavyweights like Sub Focus and Dimension.

"Two years on and "Castles In The Sky" is finally being released!" said 1991. "This collab has taken various forms and has been played out countless times over the past couple of years, but it's now ready to be put out into the world, and we're so happy that you all can finally listen to it in full."

For Subsonic, the release is especially meaningful, as the original track played a role in shaping his early love for electronic music. "I was introduced to 'Castles In The Sky' growing up through my parents—it's one of their favorites from the era and, coincidentally, also one of mine," he shared. "It's so good to see our spin on it finally released to the world."

His catalog includes hits like "Jungle" with Alex Hosking and "The Feeling" with Rudimental, AR/CO, and PNAU, showcasing his ability to create emotionally charged, festival-ready anthems.

With over a million monthly Spotify listeners, 1991 has taken his sound global, performing at premier events like EDC Las Vegas, Tomorrowland, Let It Roll, and Wembley Arena. Recently, he completed a headlining Australia tour alongside Culture Shock and is gearing up to make history with WORSHIP—the drum and bass supergroup set to be the first DnB act to headline Red Rocks Amphitheatre later this year.
