Dreamstate Records has officially launched the collaborative project nilsix, featuring Orjan Nilsen from Norway and Mark Sixma from the Netherlands. Their debut release under this new alias is “Anhedonia,” a menacing trance track that is just the beginning of what’s to come from this powerhouse duo.
Both Nilsen and Sixma have been mainstays in the electronic dance music scene for over two decades, and “Anhedonia” showcases their impressive skills and experience. The track is a moody masterpiece with a distinct old-school flavor that is sure to get listeners moving. It’s packed with menacing grooves, pulsing bass, and acid lashes, leading to a triumphant trance chorus that is a testament to the renewed energy of the world returning to the dancefloor.
Nilsen and Sixma both speak to the inspiration behind their collaboration, highlighting the struggle to find creativity during the pandemic. However, after spending a week together in the studio, they rediscovered their passion for music-making and decided to start nilsix. “Anhedonia” was one of the tracks that came together effortlessly, inspired by classic trance but brought to life with modern production techniques.
As revered and respected figures in the trance scene, Nilsen and Sixma have received praise from the likes of Armin van Buuren. Nilsen is known as the Norwegian Trance Viking and has released four artist albums and performed at trance parties worldwide. Sixma, on the other hand, boasts a formidable discography of singles and remixes and has even knocked himself from the top of the Beatport Trance charts.
“Anhedonia” was first teased on van Buuren’s A State of Trance radio show and will be released on Dreamstate Records, a label that Nilsen and Sixma are thrilled to be a part of. They’ve played at Dreamstate SoCal and EDC Las Vegas before and know that the label’s incredible vibe is a perfect match for nilsix. This debut release is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting collaboration between two talented producers.
