HI-LO has spent the last few years cementing his reputation as one of techno’s biggest festival draws. This fall, however, Oliver Heldens’ darker alter ego is taking a decidedly different approach.
Gray Area has announced that HI-LO will headline an intimate waterfront show at Creekside Under the K Bridge Park on Sunday, Oct. 11, with Irish standout Rebūke joining the lineup for what promises to be one of the techno project’s smallest New York appearances in recent memory. Limited to just 2,000 attendees, the event flips the script on an artist more commonly associated with sprawling festival stages and cavernous warehouse venues.
For fans accustomed to seeing HI-LO at events like Ultra’s RESISTANCE, Awakenings, or Factory 93, the setting may be the biggest draw. Creekside, tucked beneath Brooklyn’s Under the K Bridge Park, offers a sunset backdrop that will gradually give way to nighttime as the seven-hour event unfolds—a stark contrast to the oversized productions that have become synonymous with the project.
“HI-LO has played some of the biggest stages in the world. We wanted to make this show different and chose Creekside to give fans the chance to experience him up close in a beautiful waterfront setting, from sunset into the darkness. It’s a rare kind of experience that’s hard to find in New York.” — Michael Julian, founder of Gray Area
The booking also continues Gray Area’s strategy of pairing internationally recognized artists with venues that emphasize atmosphere over capacity. Rather than chasing the biggest room available, the promoter has built a reputation for events that feel more curated than conventional ones, giving dance music fans opportunities to experience globally established talent in settings that encourage a closer connection between artist and audience.
That philosophy makes HI-LO a fitting choice. Since launching the alias, Oliver Heldens has transformed it from a creative side project into one of modern techno’s most recognizable brands. The project has topped Beatport’s annual charts as the platform’s best-selling and most-streamed techno artist while becoming a fixture at premier events including CRSSD, Warehouse Project, Seismic Dance Event and Ultra’s RESISTANCE.
The evolution has been notable, as HI-LO has developed its own identity, separate from Heldens’ chart-friendly house catalog. Releases on Drumcode and Filth on Acid, along with collaborations with Green Velvet, Armin van Buuren, Eli Brown, Maddix, ZHU, and Kasablanca through the HILOMATIK label, have established the alias as a legitimate force in contemporary techno while maintaining the crossover appeal that first made Heldens a global name.
Sharing the bill is Rebūke, whose rise has been equally significant. The Irish producer has become one of techno’s most distinctive voices thanks to a catalog that balances peak-time energy with melodic depth. His 2023 collaboration with Anyma, “Syren,” emerged as one of melodic techno’s defining records, while “Along Came Polly” became a Beatport phenomenon that held the No. 1 spot for two months and earned Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune distinction on BBC Radio 1.
Taken together, the lineup reflects two artists who have helped shape different corners of today’s techno landscape. HI-LO represents the genre’s growing crossover reach, while Rebūke continues to embody the underground ethos that has fueled his steady ascent.
Timing also works in the event’s favor. Landing on Columbus Day weekend, the show arrives as New York’s outdoor dance music season winds down, giving fans one final opportunity to experience an open-air techno event before the city’s focus shifts indoors for the colder months.
For HI-LO, the appeal isn’t simply another stop on a global tour—it’s the chance to experience a project built for massive crowds in an environment where every transition, every drop, and every subtle production detail can be felt from just a few yards away. In a scene where bigger often seems synonymous with better, Gray Area is betting that intimacy may be the more memorable experience.
